| Yesterday, in an attempt to get more people to speak in discussion, our history GSI tried using the "fishbowl technique". Basically, only 8 people could sit at the table and discuss, and if anyone else wanted to to talk, they had to tap the back of someone at the table who already talked.
I guess it kind of worked because she chose 8 of the most silent members of the section (including me ) so we had to talk if we wanted to get away from the table but...
1. Some people still didn't talk, and just sat at the table in silence for the entire discussion. 2. The most vocal members of the section still ended up talking the most because they just kept tapping people out and saying what they needed to say. 3. The beginning part of the discussion was awkwarddd because it was so quiet.
But I got my discussion points for the day, so I am satisfied. The funny thing is my GSI was THRILLED with the "success" of discussion. *Shrugs*
